Board Vice-Chairman

The Vice-Chairman will abide by the adopted school mission, vision and core values as a member of the Board and will participate in the annual new student Family Intake Conferences. The Vice-Chair assists the Chairman with the overall leadership and direction of the Board and shall fulfill all the duties of the Chairman in the event of absence, resignation or forfeiture of office.

Duties:

1. Work closely with the Board Chairman in all duties.

2. Responsible for overseeing any project and/or committee as determined by the Board Chairman.

3. Serve as designated representative of the school, and lead meetings of the Board, in the event that the Board Chairman is unavailable.

4. Serve as Facilities Management coordinator:

  • Identify and explore facility options to support planned expansion;
  • Work with the Langston Foundation to negotiate facility leases, subleases, real estate purchases and sales, maintenance contracts, insurance policies and other agreements necessary to ensure smooth continuation of school operations;
  • Manage facility capital improvement / modernization projects;
  • Assist the principal as needed with other facility-related needs and projects.

5. Serve as the primary point of contact for Langston on one or more local Chamber(s) of Commerce, Rotary or other associations to build awareness of Langston in the community.

6. Work with the Board Chairman to identify specific local charities or community needs to which Langston Community Service efforts should be targeted to raise awareness of Langston with strategic stakeholders.

7. As needed, assist with:

  • Conducting school orientation meetings;
  • Conducting school tours for parents of prospective students, community leaders, media representatives or others interested in learning more about the school.

Required Qualifications:

• Ability to effectively delegate in a primarily volunteer-driven environment
• Comfort with public speaking
