Lottery Process

In accordance with the SC Charter School law, Langston will conduct a Lottery to determine admittance if the number of applications for a specific class exceeds the number of available spots.

The law allows some students to by-pass the lottery with guaranteed admission if they fulfill the requirements of the application process. Siblings of current or formerly-enrolled students who have completed the application process prior to the lottery deadline will be admitted and not included in the lottery. If a teacher is hired after the lottery deadline and this teacher wishes to enroll his/her child, we will accept this student ahead of those on the waiting list. In the event that a class is full, we reserve the right to close admissions and not accept additional siblings or children of a teacher after the lottery deadline.

The lottery for the 2012-2013 school year admissions will be held at 5:00PM on November 8, 2011 at Langston Middle. The name of each student will be entered into a random list generator (Random.org) and the results will become the order in which we process applications for admission.

It is anticipated that we will enroll 3 Boy and 3 Girl classes in 6th grade (replacing our graduating 8th Graders). Classes typically include 21 to 23 students. We do not plan to add any additional classes in 7th or 8th grades, however we do anticipate some attrition, which may allow for several students to be added in the existing classes. We will conduct a lottery for each class and grade in order to fill the open seats that may occur in the 7th or 8th grade classes.

Once the lottery has been conducted, the list of student names (listed in the order drawn) will be posted at school. Families will be responsible for completing an Enrollment Packet and scheduling their Family Intake Conference to complete the enrollment process. Enrollment Packets will be available to students qualified in the lottery by November 11, 2011.  Completed packets will be due to the school office by 5:00PM on Friday December 9, 2011.
