About Me

I was born and raised in Greenville and graduated from Greenville Senior High School in 2002. After attending College of Charleston for two years, I moved to Buena Vista, Colorado to work as a kids’ counselor on a dude ranch. When the season ended, I started work as a nanny for a family of six and also began attending the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. I graduated from UCCS in 2006 with a BA in history. While at UCCS, I became interested in the race and gender history of the American South. I received a fellowship from the University of Alabama to continue my studies in their graduate program in history.

Although I enjoyed graduate school, I had much more fun during the summers. I spent one summer taking teens on three week backpacking trips in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. This past summer, I worked as a cabin counselor and the backpacking head for a camp in Brevard, North Carolina.

After spending two summers living in the woods with seventh and eighth graders, I decided I wanted to work with them year-round in a classroom. I moved back to Greenville to work at Langston Middle. My husband Nate and I are actively involved in our local community center. We enjoy biking, kayaking, and hiking with our dog Lyra.

I like teaching at Langston because of the students. The girls I get to teach every day are engaged, caring individuals. Through both leadership and physical education, I hope to help these girls grow into strong, confident young women who can stay true to themselves during the turbulent years of high school and college.
