ENROLLMENT

Thank you for your interest in Langston Charter Middle School.  Langston is a free, public charter school serving students in 6th – 8th grades.  There are no academic requirements for enrollment, but all students are required to complete an application for admission to the school.

Historically, Langston has always received more applications than there are available openings for the coming year.  As a result, in accordance with South Carolina Charter School law, Langston admits all students through a lottery process.

What about younger brothers and sisters?  Do they have to go through the lottery too?

In order to be considered a "sibling applicant" and bypass the enrollment lottery, an applicant must meet certain criteria.

Lottery Process for 2021-2022 Enrollment

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Due to the ongoing safety concerns related to COVID-19, we have made some necessary adjustments to our enrollment process pertaining to this year only.  Please carefully read the information provided below and contact Celanie Martin, Registrar (cmartin@langstoncharter.org) with any questions.

Step 1:
Complete and submit the online lottery application.
  • The application link will be active on this page beginning October 1, 2020 and ending on November 1, 2020 at 5:00 pm.
  • All applications received by 5:00 pm on November 1 will be included in the enrollment lottery.
  • Sibling applicants, as defined in the school sibling enrollment policy (see “Sibling Enrollment” on this page), may bypass the lottery, but are required to submit the application by the deadline of November 1 at 5:00 pm.
Step 2:
  • There is no Application Orientation Meeting requirement this year for participation in the enrollment lottery
  • On October 1st, there will be a link on this page to a recorded informational meeting, which covers important subjects such as our school mission and core values; a description of the school day and academic program; explanation of our single sex model;  parent/student expectations; and other pertinent details related to life at Langston.
    • The recorded meeting will conclude with important information regarding the next steps of our enrollment process after the lottery.
    • As a “school of choice”, we strongly encourage parents and students to view this brief presentation together, and make it part of your family’s discussion, as you consider whether or not Langston might be a good fit for your child.
Step 3:
School tours will not be scheduled this fall, but families are encouraged to click on the “Virtual Campus Tour”, available October 1st on both this page and on our home page.
Step 4:
The 2021-22 Enrollment Lottery will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at 5:00 pm.  Results will be posted immediately afterward on the front doors of the school.  Results of the lottery will not be posted online.
