Face Masks

When face masks are required due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they should be minimally distracting with no text, no political statements or images, and free of statements or images that are inappropriate for school (weapons, drugs, alcohol, etc.). As stated in the United States Flag Code -  "The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery." As such, masks should not be composed of, or decorated with, any flag design (American or otherwise).

The Purpose of Langston's Uniform Dress Code

Students at Langston are expected to arrive at school each day prepared to focus on their education. Accordingly, our students will wear uniforms at school and at designated school-sponsored events. All students who attend Langston agree to abide by the designated school uniform dress code.

The uniform is a distinct indication of a student's connection to Langston Charter Middle School, therefore proper wearing of the uniform and adherence to the school dress code are vital.  The uniform and dress code are designed to present a neat and conservative appearance.

Uniforms for boys and girls must be purchased at one of our approved vendors in order to be in compliance with the Langston Dress Code. A complete list of uniform items is available through our vendors.

Visible adjustments or "look-alike" uniforms are not allowed.  If garments are altered and do not reflect the values of Langston, the clothing will not be in compliance under the dress code and will not be permitted.

The purpose of the dress code is to encourage students to focus on the learning process without the distractions of unsuitable dress and grooming.

Outerwear

Only the uniform Langston Fleece or Rain Jacket may be worn in the buildings and between classes.  Hats, scarves, coats, gloves, and other outerwear must be removed during the day.

  • IMPORTANT NOTES:

    • All new jackets must have the last name only embroidered on the right side of the jacket (opposite the Langston logo).

    • Land’s End and Read's Uniforms (formerly Educational Outfitters) will do the embroidery.

    • Older jackets (belonging to returning students) may be embroidered.  If you choose to do so, the student's last name must be embroidered on the right side of the jacket - in block lettering the same size as the “Langston” on the logo side.

    • The only exception: Students whose last names have more than 12 letters, must have their initials embroidered on the right side of the jacket in block letters the same size as “Langston” in the logo.

    • Numerous jackets are lost every year and never claimed because there are no names on them.  The requirement to embroider the last name on the Langston Fleece will enable staff to find the jacket owner - saving parents considerable money.

    • Do not wear the navy shirt with navy pants or skorts.

    • The skort length requirement is strictly enforced. Girls wearing skorts that don’t meet the length requirement will wait in the school office until a parent brings an appropriate uniform from home.
